Acer, Taiwan’s leading computer vendor, has seen its share price drop following its announcement of a deal to acquire Gateway, the US PC company, which would also give it control over Packard Bell. Wang Jen-tang, Acer’s chairman and CEO, spoke to Kathrin Hille, the FT’s Taipei Correspondent, at Acer’s headquarters. Financial Times: Mr Wang, the market has not treated Acer well since you announced your intention to acquire Gateway last week. How do you convince investors of the merits of this deal? What benefits will Gateway and Packard Bell bring Acer, and how will you integrate and manage these businesses?
