Time running out for Brown, say ministers

Gordon Brown will seek on Tuesday to head off attempts by his MPs to hold a no-confidence vote on his leadership amid signs that his ministers may be starting to mobilise against him.

Mr Brown expects that Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee will reject calls by about a dozen MPs for the party to send out leadership nomination forms – on the grounds that it is not legally required to do so.
