Europe and the US may have drifted apart politically in recent years because of differences over foreign policy. But not as regards the workplace.

In the past few years European companies have adopted work-family policies that many of their American cousins pioneered several years before. Companies on both sides of the Atlantic are competing to attract workers by showing they care about problems in balancing work and personal life.
