Pfizer denied permission to sell Viagra over counter

European regulators have rebuffed plans by Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical group, to offer its top-selling erectile dysfunction drug Viagra without prescription through EU pharmacies.

The company said on Thursday it had withdrawn its application to “switch” Viagra – or sell it over-the-counter – across Europe after differences over safety issues with the European Medicines Agency.
