Britain under pressure to surrender EU rebate

Gordon Brown, the UK's chancellor of the exchequer, will come under strong pressure from European Union colleagues on Thursday to surrender Britain's €4.6bn annual rebate from the EU budget.

The future of the controversial “British cheque” will be high on the agenda as finance ministers debate the next EU budget round, and how it should be financed.
