Heritage Oil and Tullow Oil have provided further indications that they could be sitting on one of the largest oilfields in sub-Saharan Africa.

The two companies are jointly exploring oil and gas prospects around Lake Albert in Uganda. Heritage said yesterday it had struck oil at the Buffalo field, which it operates and half-owns. Buffalo is the latest field in the area to indicate better-than-expected oil and gas deposits.
