Grokster closes internet music service

A landmark dispute that forced the Supreme Court to rule on internet file-sharing appeared close to resolution on Monday as Grokster capitulated to record industry demands by closing down its music download service.

Grokster had eclipsed Napster in notoriety in the eyes of the music business as an enabler of illegal downloads a technology blamed for a five-year slump in music sales.
