Job market gloom lifted by hiring pick-up

The jobs market is improving for the first time in 17 months, with small increases in permanent and temporary appointments, according to a survey of 400 recruitment companies published on Wednesday.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG, the professional services firm, said vacancies were still falling, but at the slowest pace for more than a year.
