US secret prisons in Europe ‘credible’

The man investigating allegations that the US maintained secret prisons in Europe said on Tuesday the charges were credible, but he lacked evidence that European governments had colluded with Washington.

Dick Marty, the Swiss politician chosen to investigate the case by the 46-nation Council of Europe, the human rights organisation, said “the information gathered to date reinforced the credibility of the allegations concerning the transfer and temporary detention of individuals”.
