Alitalia will decide next week whether to write down the value of its fleet of ageing aircraft, a step that could cost up to €400m ($541m) and complicate the privatisation of Italy's crisis-ridden national airline.
Alitalia's directors, who meet on Wednesday to approve the company's 2006 results, will announce their decision just as the three consortia bidding for the airline begin due diligence.
