Big rise in anti-dumping probes

The number of new anti-dumping investigations jumped by more than a quarter last year from 2007 as recession-hit industries such as steel felt the squeeze from low-priced competitors, especially China.

Governments opened 208 investigations into unfairly priced imports in 2008, compared with an 11-year low of 163 in 2007, the World Trade Organisation said on Thursday.
