Digicel eyes Caribbean dominance with Haiti win

Digicel, the mobile telecommunications company, is this week expected to be awarded a licence to operate in Haiti, the latest Caribbean market targeted in its quest to become the region's dominant mobile provider.

The move is the latest twist in a battle between Digicel, chaired and controlled by Denis O'Brien, the Irish telecoms entrepreneur, and Cable and Wireless, to gain pole position in the West Indian mobile phone market.
