Lufthansa in green levy plan

German airline Lufthansa plans to introduce a voluntary emissions surcharge on tickets before the end of the year, with the takings going to charities and projects that fight global warming.

The airline said the move was prompted by customer requests. But it could also be seen as a reaction to pressure for airlines to sign up to the EU's carbon dioxide emissions trading scheme.
