High spirits down under as miners gain

Shares in the region maintained momentum on Tuesday, hitting highs last seen nearly a year ago as gold prices boosted miners and Australian business confidence jumped.

The MSCI Asia-Pacific index rose 1.3 per cent to 115.75 in late Tokyo trading, the highest in a year.
