Putin, Bush see Nato role in missile defence

Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and US president George W. Bush on Monday agreed that Nato should be involved in the proposed US missile defence shield. However, they failed to narrow differences over Washington’s plans to locate part of the system in central Europe.

The Russian president expanded on his surprise proposal last month for the US and Russia to co-operate on missile defence, calling for European countries and Nato to join consultations about the project.
