Decision on state aid to Arcandor delayed

The German government is set to delay any decision about providing state aid to Arcandor until June, as the state pushes the troubled retailer and rival Metro for details about a possible merger of their department stores.

Government officials told the Financial Times that last week’s talks between the two companies about merging their Karstadt and Kaufhof chains made Arcandor’s application for a €650m state loan guarantee “effectively obsolete”.
