Smiths plans two-year turnround

Philip Bowman, the new chief executive of Smiths Group, has put in place a two-year turnround plan to resolve problems at the UK engineering conglomerate’s poorly performing medical division.

Mr Bowman, who took over last December, announced the plan on Wednesday as he unveiled a 21 per cent rise in interim pre-tax profits for the group, driven by strong results from its detection and speciality engineering divisions.
