European Union leaders will on Thursday broach a mounting political controversy over José Manuel Barroso’s bid for reappointment as European Commission president.
The bloc’s 27 national leaders will dine in Brussels on Thursday night at an EU summit to discuss the former Portuguese premier’s future, and to decide how far to go in endorsing him for a second five-year term.
