As the first very light jets are delivered to commercial customers, the aviation world is holding its breath to see whether the business model of the many would-be air taxi pioneers stands up to the harsh test of commercial reality.
But the model is not as untested as some fear. SATSair of the US has been operating a fleet of small Cirrus piston-engined aircraft in a similar role for more than two years – and is expanding across the eastern states.
