Water utilities lag in London after downgrade

London stocks moved higher on Tuesday, but regulatory and dividend concerns left the water utilities sidelined.

Stocks including Pennon lagged after Merrill Lynch cut ratings ahead of the sector’s results season. With a review of price caps due in July and retail price deflation eroding dividend growth, the companies have little incentive to beat expectations, said analyst Fraser McLaren.
