Not many have kind words at present for Paul Wolfowitz, the former US deputy defence secretary, and head of the World Bank.
His performance at the bank, amid allegations that he had shown professional favouritism to his girlfriend, seemed like an example of not-much-grace under pressure. And he is best known in government for having grandfathered the Iraq war, evidently a twinkle in his eye before George W. Bush had found the place on a map.
