Cash raisings by building groups soar

Construction and building companies have tapped global equity markets for more money in 2009 than in any previous year, fuelled by Chinese infrastructure spending and a need for western companies to refinance.

Capital raised by construction and building materials companies soared to $49.6bn in the first nine months of 2009, an increase of almost 400 per cent compared with the same period last year.
