Candidates go deep in the heart of Texas

Barack Obama looks increasingly likely to secure the Democratic party’s presidential nomination in Tuesday’s primary elections with opinion polls showing him narrowly ahead of Hillary Clinton in Texas and reducing his deficit to just 4 percentage points in Ohio.

Mrs Clinton must win both states, which until recently had been seen as safe territory for her, to retain any realistic chance of securing the nomination.
