UK workers’ memorial day mooted

British workers were on Monday offered the tantalising prospect of another bank holiday – in this case one to commemorate deaths in the workplace – but past experience suggests they should not get their hopes up.

Yvette Cooper, work and pensions secretary, became the latest politician to put forward the idea that the paltry eight days of national bank holidays in England and Wales – nine in Scotland – should be increased.
