TAG Heuer debate: Swiss in a tizz about origin of movements

TAG Heuer began its 150th anniversary celebrations at the end of last year, with a lavish cocktail party and dinner at the McLaren HQ, hosted by Lewis Hamilton, the former F1 world champion and long-time brand ambassador. This is all par for the course for any luxury brand that has reached such a milestone, and at this dinner the announcement was made of a new movement, to be built inhouse.

Called the Calibre 1887, a number of fanatical watch spotters pounced on the announcement when they noticed the movement’s striking resemblance to a mechanism made and patented by Seiko of Japan in the 1990s.
