Defence ministers are set to take the first steps towards opening up Europe's €30bn ($39bn, £21bn) annual military equipment market to cross-border competition, it was claimed at the weekend.

Nick Witney, head of the new European Defence Agency, believes ministers will agree to a new code to increase competition in the autumn.
