Burma junta wary in YouTube era

Over the last week Burma’s repressive military rulers have shown unprecedented restraint as maroon-robed Buddhist monks have led the biggest protest marches against the regime in 20 years.

The dramatic, and so far peaceful, marches have revived memories of the hopes and traumas of 1988, when a massive uprising against decades of repressive dictatorship was suppressed with the slaughter of thousands of unarmed demonstrators.
