Pressure on currency hits Vietnam

Vietnam buckled to market pressure to further weaken its currency yesterday when it doubled the trading band for the dong against the dollar, reports Chawadee Nualkhair from Bangkok.

The State Bank of Vietnam, which devalued the dong by 2 per cent earlier this month, said it would widen the daily trading range to 2 per cent from today. It comes as Vietnam wrestles with its eighth month of double-digit inflation.
