Lloyds TSB was dealt a blow yesterday when Terri Dial, the US executive who has revived its sluggish retail bank, resigned to join Citigroup.

Ms Dial, known in her native San Francisco as the "human cyclone" for her energetic management style, will become global head of consumer strategy at Citi.
