Unions threaten general strike on French reforms

French unions yesterday threatened a general strike as pressure grew on Dominique de Villepin, France's embattled prime minister, to revoke a controversial employment law.

"If there are no moves [in that direction] we will propose a day of strikes in the next few days," said Bernard Thibault, head of the powerful CGT union, ahead of a meeting of different unions due to take place today.
