Watchdog attacks nuclear go-ahead

The green light for the construction of new nuclear power stations given by ministers last week has been attacked by the government’s watchdog for sustainable development.

In one of its strongest critiques of policy, the Sustainable Development Commission, which is independent but funded by the government, criticised ministers for their “inadequate response to the legitimate concerns expressed by the general pub­lic over new nuclear power”.
