UK scheme liabilities 85% of GDP

UK public pension fund liabilities are spiralling way above those of the US and Canada, reaching the equivalent of 85 per cent of gross domestic product.

A comparative study* of the schemes of the three countries by the British-North American Committee shows liabilities for UK schemes are now £1,180bn. Although US liabilities are higher at £2,700bn, this is just 28 per cent of GDP.
