Hector Sants, chief executive of the Financial Services Authority, turned down a £130,000 performance bonus for the 2008-09 fiscal year because the City regulator is in the middle of debating its policies on bonuses at banks and other companies it oversees.

The decision left Mr Sants with total compensation of £623,000 for the year ending April 19, down from £662,000 the previous year.
