Hank Paulson, US Treasury secretary, will tell Chinese leaders in Beijing this week that the renminbi’s recent appreciation needs to continue but is “significant and welcome”, according to a top US official.
“The accelerated rate of appreciation is significant and welcome and we believe that it should continue,” Alan Holmer, the Treasury’s special envoy for China, said at a press briefing in Washington ahead of Mr Paulson’s visit.
