Germany eyes bank regulation reform

Plans to fold Germany’s bank regulator into the central bank were high on the agenda as the country’s conservative Christian Democrats and pro-business Free Democrats on Monday started talks on the shape of the new government.

With Chancellor Angela Merkel hoping to form a government at the end of the month, officials from both parties say there is broad agreement about overhauling national financial regulation in the wake of global economic crisis.
