Insurers warned over 'unjustified' rises

Insurers were attacked by the government's top lawyer yesterday for using complaints of a "compensation culture" as an unjustifiable excuse for increasing pre-miums.

Lord Falconer, the lord chancellor, pledged to clamp down on "claims farmers" who encouraged frivolous injury claims and perpetuated the false perception of easy, big-money payouts.
