France on Tuesday intensified calls for a more “resolute dialogue” between the eurozone's politicians and the European Central Bank, arguing that fiscal and monetary policy must be better co-ordinated to stimulate faster economic growth.
In a speech to France's ambassadors, Philippe Douste-Blazy, foreign minister, said Europe must improve its economic governance. “Everyone can see that the euro today remains an unfinished project, for lack of a seriously co-ordinated economic policy between members of the eurozone,” he said. “Let us not leave economic and budget policy to the European Central Bank, let us not leave it just to the European Commission, to people who are not elected.”
