WTO chief urges boldness on trade negotiators

The head of the World Trade Organisation on Tuesday called on its 149 members to ?be bold, open-minded and take risks? as he urged them to move the stalled Doha trade round ?one step forward? at their ministerial meeting this week.

Pascal Lamy made clear after the opening ceremony that a serious effort would be needed to achieve even the limited goals set for the meeting. ?Trade negotiations do not unfold by magic. They are difficult. There is no easy solution to many of the problems that are on the table,? he said.
