IMF urges Iran to step up inflation fight

WASHINGTON, July 19 - The International Monetary Fund urged Iran on Friday to raise interest rates and take other policy measures to contain inflation.

It said Iran’s economic growth was expected to slow in 2008/09 to 5.7 per cent from 6.6 per cent last year, but nevertheless judged that overall prospects for the economy were good.
