Lord Black’s glamorous wife caused a stir early in the trial after calling two Canadian broadcasters “sluts” and “vermin” in the courthouse. Although it was sometimes alleged that Lord Black had committed fraud in order to finance Lady Black’s rich tastes, there was no evidence of a rift between the couple. Lady Black, a former columnist for the London Daily Telegraph, sat through nearly every day of the trial, and was often spotted holding her husband’s hand and whispering to him as they walked out of the courtroom.
