Private equity: Helpful role in reinvigorating business

Saprogal is hardly a name that trips off the tongue, in any language. However, in Spanish financial circles, the Galician animal feed company is being held up as the most persuasive example of what private equity investors can do.

Bought by Carlyle, the private equity firm, from ConAgra of the US for €130m in May 2004, it was last month sold to another group of financial investors for five times that amount.
