Supermarkets sweep for shoppers

A supermarket scrap for customers could lead to falling retail profits and supplier distress, some retail executives and analysts warn.

“Food inflation is dramatic,” said Paul Foley, head of Aldi in the UK and Ireland. “Anyone that tells you it’s not is just pushing it on to somebody else. I’m a little bit worried about the supply base when I hear other retailers are saying things about price cuts.”
