Chanda Kochhar is a woman who likes a challenge. The sari-wearing banker, who joined ICICI Bank, India’s largest private sector institution, as a management trainee, cut her teeth building its then fledgling retail division. This part of the former state-controlled development bank later rose to become its main growth engine.
Now the 47-year-old Ms Kochhar, who was named as ICICI’s chief executive in December becoming one of only two women to have headed an Indian domestic bank, faces the challenge of her life.
