AOL's survival strategy lies in removing walls

Jon Miller hateswalled gardens. The chief executive of America Online prefers open spaces, freely accessible, where visitors can graze at leisure.

The landscaping job has taken almost three years, but Mr Miller, who reports to Don Logan, believes that the future shape of AOL is visible. The old subscription-only internet business - which seduced Time Warner with such disastrous consequences - is being replaced.
