Labour braced for drubbing in polls

Britain’s ruling Labour party on Thursday went through a temporary lull in hostilities as Gordon Brown, prime minister, braced himself for a drubbing in local and European elections.

As voters went to the polls, Mr Brown’s team was plotting how to reshape his ministerial team and face down a “cyber-coup” orchestrated by disgruntled Labour members of parliament.
