Strong diplomatic career of secret envoy

Sir Nigel Sheinwald, the man chosen by Tony Blair to undertake the secret approach to Syria, is the prime minister’s chief foreign policy adviser.

He is also still rising through the uppermost echelons of the diplomatic service and is widely tipped to become Britain’s next ambassador to Washington.
