Hamas acts to free Johnston

Alan Johnston, the BBC’s Gaza correspondent, was released on Wednesday after almost four months in captivity, mostly spent in solitary confinement in a small dark room.

His freedom was secured after Hamas, which seized control of Gaza last month, reached a deal with his kidnappers, a group calling itself the Army of Islam.
