Brown needs 'dynamism and confidence' to overcome woes

Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister, needs to show "dynamism and confidence" in 2008 if he is to regain the political momentum from the resurgent opposition Conservatives, according to a prominent cabinet minister.

Hazel Blears, the communities secretary and former Labour party chairwoman, is the latest member of Mr Brown's cabinet publicly to argue that the beleaguered UK government needs to make "clear progress" this year.
