Insurers optimistic damage is limited

Insurers are braced for billions of dollars of claims after hurricane Gustav hit the US Gulf Coast, but are hopeful that losses will be significantly less than the roughly $40bn inflicted by hurricane Katrina in 2005.

They are optimistic that damage from Gustav will be limited, after the hurricane weakened and made landfall in a less-populous region, south-west of New Orleans.
