Global inflation: Authorities begin to put aside inflation fears

Rising inflation was the global news story of the summer. Rising prices squeezed households and companies in advanced economies, spreading misery. In the developing world, the soaring cost of essential food and energy was a matter of life and death.

But as autumn takes hold, the new question is whether policymakers – desperately trying to contain a crisis – can safely put aside concerns about prices. Can inflation be ignored?
